Free software

Please note that although we think the following links to free software will be useful to you we can’t be held responsible if, after installing them, your computer becomes unstable. Like most computer software, if you don’t like it you can simply uninstall it - You should be comfortable with installing and uninstalling software before trying any of these links.

Anti-virus software

It is absolutely vital that you have active up to date antivirus software running on your computer. There are many commercial programs out there, but you need to be aware that these are an annual subscription. However there are good free programs out there too, which because they are free have less features than their ‘professional’ editions - but they provide you with the essential basic anti virus cover you need.

One final point to note is that many banks and Internet service providers often provide free antivirus software for their customers - its always worth checking by searching their website.

AVG have been producing a free version of their software for many years. The link here takes you to the download page for the AVG free version, but note that you get two download options - AVG AntiVirus Free and AVG Internet Security; the first is totally free but the second is a trial version that’s only free for a month.
